Limited Term 12 months; may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.

Effective July 1, 2025, in accordance with the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires each full-time employee in Bargaining Unit 20, and related Excluded, Exempt and Statutory Exempt employees, will have their base salary reduced by 3 percent and will receive 5 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes. Part-time employees are subject to the same conditions as full-time employees, on a prorated basis equivalent to their time-base. Permanent intermittent employees are subject to the same condition as full-time employees, based on the number of hours worked in the pay period.

Under the direct supervision of the Supervising Dentist (SD), Correctional Facility (CF) and the clinical direction of the treating Dentist (DDS), CF, the Supervising Dental Assistant (SDA), CF provides supervision, support, training, and leadership to the Dental Assistants (DA), CF. The SDA, CF supervises, plans, and directs the duties and overall responsibilities of the DA, CF at an institution and adheres to Health Care Department Operations Manual (HCDOM), and State and/or federal regulation

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of experience as a dental assistant. (Training in a school for dental assistants may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of six months of training being equal to twelve months of experience.) And

Possession of a current license as a Registered Dental Assistant in California. (Applicants who do not meet this requirement will be admitted to the examination, but must secure the required license before they will be considered eligible for appointment.)

Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If it is determined an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position. Candidates new to CCHCS are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting.

Tuberculosis (TB) testing is required for candidates new to CCHCS prior to appointment followed by department annual TB testing/evaluation thereafter.
